Sargsyan and Khristenko discuss issues of cooperation between Armenia and Eurasian Economic Commission

Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission for Europe (EEC) Viktor Khristenko has met with President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan. They discussed a wide range of issues of Armenia's cooperation with the EEC.Among other things, the sides discussed the memorandum on enhancing cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Commission and Armenia signed the day before in Yerevan, which Khristenko praised as successful and fruitful, Novosti-Armenia reports.

Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan will visit Moscow today and meet Russian Vice Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov and chairman of the board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Victor Christenko, RIA Novosti reports.They will discuss Armenia’s membership in the Customs Union. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev discussed expansion of cooperation within the framework of the Customs Union on Wednesday. The sides discussed bilateral cooperation in trade and energy.

Ukraine to become observer at Customs Union

 Ukraine will become an observer at the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan in late May, RIA Novosti cites Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov.The PM noted that discussions of technical aspects of the process with Kazakhstan and Belarus were almost accomplished. Ukraine will have an office at the Eurasian Economic Commission.Ukraine’ membership in the Customs Union is one of the conditions Gazprom has in order to sell cheaper fuel to Ukraine.

  The Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) has expressed dissatisfaction with the failure of the Customs Union (CU) agreement on common rules for state support of agriculture. Thus, according to the press release of ECE, Kazakhstan does not fulfill, and Russia only partly fulfills paragraph 1 of Article 7 of the agreement. This paragraph states that the parties shall notify each other in writing of the planned program for the support of agriculture.

The Russian government plans to consider presentation of the deal on cooperation and mutual aid in customs affairs of members of the Customs Union for ratification by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, RIA Novosti reports.Realization of the deal would help the customs service of the states to cooperate. The sides that signed the document would be able to open offices of customs services at other states.

 CIS states may join the technical regulation of the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan to enter the common market, Chairman of the board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Victor Christenko told Russian President Vladimir Putin, RIA Novosti reports.Russia and Belarus have completed preparations of a document allowing other states to join the technical regulation, Kazakhstan is concluding work on the document.

Eurasian Economic Commission approves common tariff for Customs Union

The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission has approved the new common tariff for the Customs Union, ITAR-TASS reports.The average import fee will drop from 9.6% to 7.5-7.8%, according to WTO standards. About 90% of tariff lines will remain at the current level. Tariffs will drop for about 1,000 types of products, Russian Deputy Minister for Economic Development Andrey Slepnyov said.

Belarus and Kazakhstan may keep high import fees Russia will lower when entering the WTO, as stated by Andrey Slepnev, Minister for Trade and board member of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), RIA Novosti reports.Keeping the old fees requires filing a request for temporary fees for 1.5 years. Three states will approve the request.
